Canadian cows take top honors

Bonaccueil Maya Goldwyn, a six-year-old Holstein owned by Ty-D Holsteins, Drolet & Fils, Ferme Jacobs, A & R Boulet Incorporated of Cap-Sante, Quebec was named Supreme Champion of World Dairy Expo on Saturday.

KHW Regiment Apple 3-ETN, a Red & White Holstein owned by Westcoast Holsteins of Chilliwack, British Columbia was named Reserve Supreme Champion.

The 2013 A.C. “Whitie” Thomson Memorial Award was presented to Jason Danhof, Waukon, Iowa, by the Whitie Thomson family during the 47th World Dairy Expo, marking Danhof’ s 25th consecutive year involved with World Dairy Expo. The award honors the herdsman/showman who exhibits exemplary leadership and sportsmanship throughout the show. Danhof was selected because he treats his fellow Expo exhibitors with integrity and friendliness, resembling those characteristics of A.C. “Whitie” Thomson

A three-breed award winner equally well known in Red & White, Holstein and Jersey circles, Cassy Krull won the 2013 Merle Howard Award. The daughter of the Cindy Krull and the late Brian Krull of Lake Mills, Wis., Krull is the tenth person to receive this honor. The Merle Howard Award is presented to the top junior exhibitor at World Dairy Expo who demonstrates exemplary skills in fitting, showmanship and overall passion for the dairy industry.

Paul Ekstein of Woodbridge, Ontario, Canada, has been selected by the Klussendorf Association as the fifth recipient of the Robert “Whitey” McKown Master Breeder Award. The honor was presented at the 47th World Dairy Expo. This award recognizes a well-managed breeder herd that has been successful at showing and judging, while emphasizing all qualities of the Klussendorf Award, including ability, character, endeavor and sportsmanship.

It was also announced at the close that the theme for World Dairy Expo in 2014 will be “Designer Dairy”.
