Wrapping it up in Wisconsin
About the only thing left to report in the weekly Crop Progress Report from the National Ag Statistics Service Wisconsin Field Office is the final stages of the corn harvest. As of Sunday, 94 percent of the corn-for-grain crop is combined, up 7 percent from last week and 25 points ahead of the five-year average. Yields have varied greatly even within a field although there were numerous reports that things were better than expected.
Fall tillage is 72 percent complete, that is the most done by this date in the 30 years of keeping track of such things. Precipitation was light last week including some snow but soil moisture levels held steady with 4 percent surplus, 46 percent adequate, 38 percent short and 12 percent very short. Year-to-date precipitation: Green Bay is 1.84 inches above normal, Milwaukee is 5.5 inches below normal, La Crosse is short 5.92 inches, Madison is 6.87 inches below average and Eau Claire is short 8.11 inches.
This is the last weekly crop progress report of the season for the Badger State.
