Understanding Cuba

Senator Sherrod Brown (1)_webA member of the Senate Agriculture Committee says there are real opportunities with Cuba.

U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) tells Brownfield the biggest obstacle to overcome is breaking down the rules currently in place.

“I think it’s also just learning about Cuba,” said Brown. “It’s their learning about how to do in a Capitalist system how to do trade back and forth, how to set up the structures for imports, all the things you start at zero with.”

While not aware of a specific timetable, the Senator says the sooner the better.

“The Obama Administrations working it, we’re working it, a lot of farm groups are pushing, but I think we’ve already seen with the President visiting with the Cuban government, I think we’re seeing the beginnings of really good things here,” the Senator said.

Senator Brown does support the Freedom to Export to Cuba Act, legislation endorsed by the U.S. Agriculture Coalition that would repeal provisions of previous laws barring trade and financial transactions with Cuba.
