Twin Cities FFA chapter continues to grow

An FFA chapter in the heart of the Twin Cities is seeing tremendous growth.

Lillian Thuente says her Highland Park FFA Chapter in St. Paul has grown from around 20 members its first year to more than 700.

“And this year we have over 40 students attending (the Minnesota) FFA State Convention.”

Speaking to Brownfield from the Minnesota State Fairgrounds Monday morning, she said they use a Google classroom program to promote FFA within the school.

“So we have our Schoology group codes all around the school and posters saying ‘if you’re interested in any of these careers, or you’re thinking about attending any of these schools, or something piques your interest, you can type in this code and join our Schoology group to get updates from us.”

Thuente says her chapter focuses on community outreach and leadership development.

“Because we don’t necessarily have access to all of the resources and materials that other chapters would. So we’re really good at developing those leadership development events, practicing interview skills, developing resumes, that’s something that we’re very strong at.”
