Tremendous progress in Wisconsin fields

Planting corn in Wisconsin

It was a very busy week in Wisconsin fields last week.  As of Sunday, 42 percent of the Badger State’s corn crop is planted compared to 5 percent planted a week ago and 18 percent for the five-year average.  80 percent of the oats are planted compared to 46 percent a week ago and 46 percent for the five-year average.  29 percent of the oats has emerged.

Three-fourths of the Wisconsin potato crop is planted, pastures are rated 53 percent good-to-excellent condition and the winter wheat is 66 percent good-to-excellent shape.

Topsoil moisture is listed 68 percent adequate and 3 percent surplus leaving 29 percent in the short-to-very-short rating.

A number of farmers are looking to keep the tractors rolling and move right into planting soybeans.  Dan Roe at Monticello finished-up planting corn about 5 on Sunday evening.  They got a nice rain and he was going to start planting beans on Monday.
