One last winter hurrah in Michigan

An ag meteorologist says this week’s a low pressure system should bring one last snow storm to Michigan.

Jeff Andresen with Michigan State University tells Brownfield a late winter system Wednesday through Friday is expected to bring wet, heavy snow.  He says accumulation could be up to a foot in certain regions resulting one to two inches of water added to an already saturated soil profile.

Andresen says he doesn’t expect any major damage to fruit crops from this week’s storm as long as temperatures stay above 20 degrees.  “We likely we start to see some significant development of our overwintering crops here within the next week after the current winter storm and then the warm weekend coming.”

He says another storm system is in the forecast for early next week with warming temperatures which does mean an increased risk for pest and disease issues.
