Missouri Farm Bureau visits Washington, D.C.

Missouri Farm Buerau Vice President Todd Hays, Monroe City, Mo. in Washington, D.C., Mar. 15, 2016.The Missouri Farm Bureau is among three state Farm Bureaus talking to elected representatives in Washington, D.C. this week.  Farm Bureau members will be in front of the officials representing them on Capitol Hill.  Missouri Farm Bureau Vice President Todd Hays of Monroe City tells Brownfield that members of the organization get to express face-to-face how laws and regulations affect them and their farms.

“They can do those things over the phones and on emails, but that one-on-one conversation out here in Washington, D.C., in their office, in a meeting room, that’s pretty powerful,” Hays told Brownfield Ag News shortly after arriving in the nation’s capital Tuesday.

Part of the trip involves meetings with foreign officials.

“We’re going to French Embassy and meet with their deputy director of ag and their ag counsel,” said Hays.  “Maybe we’ll understand more what they’re dealing and how we can maybe help some things out.”

Some of the meetings and gatherings will be held jointly with State Farm Bureaus from Ohio and Michigan.

The trip includes an evening tour of the U.S. Capitol conducted by Missouri Congressman Sam Graves.
