Michigan invests in agricultural processing
The Michigan Department of Agriculture has announced new investment grants to expand dairy processing and help poultry producers become cage-free.
Continental Dairy Faculties and Fairlife were awarded $225,000 for their shared dairy processing site in Coopersville to expand operations and production lines. Fairlife plans to add a third packaging line for Fairlife milk, Core Power and Yup brands. Continental Dairy will expand butter and buttermilk powder production. The companies are investing $173 million in the project.
Herbruck’s Poultry Ranch in Ionia County will receive $100,000 to help convert much of the business to cage-free housing by 2024 to meet customer demands.
The first time grant awards were given through the Food and Agriculture Investment Program which provides financial support for food and agriculture projects that help expand processing in the state.
