Iowa biodiesel producers visit with state legislators
Biodiesel producers from across Iowa are at the state capitol today for their annual “Day on the Hill” lobbying event.
Chad Stone, chairman of the Iowa Biodiesel Board and chief financial officer for Ames-based Renewable Energy Group, says the state of Iowa has been very supportive of the biodiesel industry.
“Retailers incentives, producer incentives—and then even recently–in this last year–with the fuel tax increase, there’s a three-cent exemption for blends of biodiesel over 11 percent,” Stone says. “So the state has created excellent policy to make us a highly competitive state and to continue to hold the position as the top producer of biodiesel in the country.”
Iowa has 10 operating biodiesel plants. They produced 227 million gallons in 2014, but have an annual capacity of more than 300 million gallons.
