Indiana planting progress: 76% corn; 47% soybeans

Farmers took advantage of a break in weather when they could to make significant corn and soybean planting progress this past week.

According to the latest crop and weather report 76 percent of corn has been planted, a 20 percent jump from the previous week and 45 percent emerged.

Soybean planting advanced 24 percent with 47 percent of the crop planted and 16 percent emerged.

Ninety-five percent of the winter wheat crop is jointing and 79 percent headed with 66 percent of the crop rated good to excellent.  Ideal weather early in the week created ideal conditions for cutting, drying, and baling hay and 28 percent of the 1st cutting of alfalfa hay is complete.

Ninety-nine percent of both the topsoil and subsoil moisture is adequate to surplus.
