Heading into harvest at full-speed

Harvest is in full swing for Ashville, Ohio farmer Allen Ett.

When I talked to Allen this morning, he was in-line at the elevator delivering wheat.  He says the recent weather has allowed them to go full-speed ahead into harvest for the past two weeks.  “We got started when moisture was about 25 percent,” he says.  “Yields are really good for our area.  And then we ran about 300 acres of beans last week.  We had some early variety beans and a processor needed beans desperately – so we actually dried some of those beans.” And now, he says, they’re back into corn.

Ett tells Brownfield he saw a lot of Grey Leaf Spot in his corn crop this year.  “But, I don’t think it affected the yield on the corn,” he says.  “It seemed like that corn was pretty well made when that hit in August.”

And, surprisingly, he says – there’s been very little disease pressure in soybeans.
