First Missouri Soybean Hall of Fame Inductee is Don Heil

The late Don Heil of Norborne, Missouri was inducted into the new Missouri Soybean Hall of Fame Wednesday in Columbia.  The award was accepted by Heil’s son-in-law David Durham (pictured), who now farms the land once home to Heil.  The Hall of Fame winner came to be known as “Mr. Soybean” in Northwest Missouri after founding a voluntary soybean checkoff.  He served a dozen years on the Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council after the national mandatory soybean checkoff began.

Heil started the three-day Norborne Soybean Festival that continues to this day on the first weekend of August.
