EPA raises Renewable Volume Obligations to statutory levels

The EPA has raised its 2017 Renewable Volume Obligations (RVO) for conventional biofuels to statutory levels.

Renewable Fuels Association president Bob Dinneen says the agency has finalized a rule that sends a very positive signal to the marketplace.

“I think you’ll see investment in infrastructure and new technologies.  I think you’ll (also) see a revitalization of the next generation of biofuels as a result of this rule.  It’s very big news.”

The 2017 RVO numbers now closely align with the original Renewable Fuel Standard mandate.

“Nineteen point two-eight billion gallons for all renewable fuels.  Four point two-eight billion gallons of that for advanced biofuels, which implies 15 billion gallons for conventional biofuels like ethanol.”

Dinneen says cellulosic ethanol targets for next year are up 35 percent at 311 million gallons, and agrees with the EPA’s decision to maintain cellulosic waver authority given limited production capacity.

National Corn Growers Association president Wesley Spurlock responded to the final RVO ruling, saying increasing ethanol volumes is critical for farmers facing difficult economic times.

And the National Biodiesel Board is applauding the administration for reducing America’s dependence on fossil fuels by raising biodiesel volumes under the RFS.

  • There are many systems to help produce biofuels with gasification of woody biomass into J8 jet fuel and many others we are working on small scale gasifiers for family farms and homeless farm operations to cut costs
