Efforts continue to grow Nebraska’s dairy industry

Efforts continue to grow Nebraska’s dairy industry.

Rod Johnson, executive director of the Nebraska State Dairy Association, says there has been some progress.

“We have grown about ten thousand cows, which is about 20 percent, since we started some of our efforts about six years ago,” Johnson says. “So we are seeing some growth.”

Meanwhile, a coalition called Grow Nebraska Dairy continues to talk to large dairy processors in hopes of bringing a facility to Nebraska.

“We have been out kicking a lot of tires, knocking on a lot of doors, and making a lot of contacts,” Johnson says. “I wish we could say we have something to announce. We certainly do not. But we are talking to a lot of people.”

The Nebraska State Dairy Association recently held its annual meeting in Columbus.
