Early U.S. corn, soybean harvests slower than average

The U.S. soybean harvest is underway.

The USDA says that as of Sunday, 4% of the crop is harvested, compared to the five year average of 5%, with 41% at the leaf dropping stage, also a little bit slower than normal. 59% of U.S. beans are in good to excellent shape, down 1% on the week, typical as a crop heads towards widespread harvest activity.

86% of corn has dented, 34% has reached maturity, and 7% has been harvested, all behind their respective usual paces. 61% of U.S. corn is in good to excellent condition, steady with a week ago.

13% of winter wheat is planted, compared to 15% on average. This year’s spring wheat harvest is, at least according to the USDA, officially over.

35% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are rated good to excellent, 2% less than last week.
