Both sides on COOL bill urge House leaders
Both supporters and opponents of Country of Origin Labeling are pushing to get their point across as the U.S. House gets ready to vote on a bill that would repeal COOL.
Nearly 300 ag groups sent a letter to House Ag Committee leaders saying it’s premature for Congress to “surrender to saber-rattling from our trading partners.” The National Farmers Union, the AFL-CIO, the Organic Consumers Organization and Missouri Rural Crisis Center are among those who signed the letter.
Meanwhile, a letter from the COOL Reform Coalition, made up of more than 100 groups, says with tariffs looming from Canada and Mexico, the House must pass the repeal bill. Among the groups signing that letter are Archer Daniels Midland, the American Feed Industry Association, Coca-Cola, and the Grocery Manufacturers Association.
A vote on the COOL repeal bill is expected later this week in the House.
