Another big week of planting progress in Arkansas

Decent weather is helping Arkansas farmers continue to make big strides in planting progress.

Statewide, corn is 68 percent planted, with 42 percent of the crop emerged.  Rice is 67 percent planted and 29 percent emerged.  Soybeans are 43 percent planted, with 23 percent emerged. Cotton is 6 percent planted. Peanuts are 4 percent planted. The planting pace and emergence for all crops are running well ahead of last year and the 5-year average.

Winter wheat is 50 percent headed, with 68 percent rated good to excellent.

The first cutting of hay is 3 percent complete. Hay conditions are 46 percent good to excellent, pasture conditions are 45 percent good to excellent, and vegetables are 41 percent good to excellent.

Topsoil moisture is 87%, and subsoil moisture is 88%, adequate to surplus.
