Agrium, PotashCorp shareholders approve merger
Shareholders of Agrium and PotashCorp have overwhelmingly approved the merger of the two fertilizer companies.
More than 99 percent of PotashCorp investors and 98 percent of Agrium shareholders voted in favor of the deal.
The merger brings together PotashCorp’s extensive fertilizer mining operations with Agrium’s global direct-to-farmer retail network. If the deals clears regulatory scrutiny, the merged company would control two-thirds of the potash capacity and nearly one-third of the phosphate and nitrogen capacity in North America.
The company would be headquartered in PotashCorp’s hometown of Saskatoon while maintaining a corporate office in Calgary where Agrium is based.
