Ag groups send letters to “protect crop insurance”

Dozens of U.S. ag groups reportedly have written to key congressional members and the ag secretary-designate asking them to “protect crop insurance and recognize its central importance to farmers, lenders and all of rural America” in the next farm bill. The letters say agriculture made plenty of reductions in the 2014 farm bill – including cuts to crop insurance and commodity payments.

The letters went to all members of Budget and Appropriations Committees, the director of the Office of Management and Budget and to Sonny Perdue.

Among those sending the letters, according to Agri-Pulse, are the American Farm Bureau, American Agri-Women, the Farm Credit Council, the Specialty Crop Farm Bill Alliance and the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives.
