ACE unveils E15 & Flex Fuel Retailer Roadmap

Ron Lamberty

The American Coalition for Ethanol (ACE) has unveiled an E15 and Flex Fuel Retailer Roadmap.

ACE senior vice president Ron Lamberty says among other things, the 83 page book outlines the financial reasons for offering ethanol at the pump.

“As an industry, we’ve spent a lot of time explaining (to retailers) how they can get equipment (or) buy dispensers.  We probably haven’t done a good enough job of explaining how they can make money doing this, which is ultimately why all of these retailers would consider it in the first place.”

The roadmap contains feedback from retailers discussing reasons why they do or don’t offer ethanol.

Lamberty tells Brownfield state-specific information is also included, covering regulations, incentives and a fuel profit estimate.

“For example, if you have 2,000 stations in your state and five percent of your cars are flex fuel, then there should probably be 100 E85 stations in the state.  So if there’s five (percent flex fuel vehicles, that would imply that there’s room for 95 (percent).  So we did that kind of calculation.”

Speaking to Brownfield during the ACE ethanol conference in Minneapolis, Lamberty says the Retailer Roadmaps  are available online and will be distributed through mailings and trade shows.
