Midday cash livestock markets

Activity in cattle country on Monday is limited to the distribution of the new showlists. The bulk of last week’s business took place late Friday afternoon. Southern live deals were marked at 130.00, generally 2.00 higher than the previous week. Northern dressed trade ranged from mostly 210.00 to 212.00, about 4.00 to 5.00 higher than the previous week’s weighted average basis Nebraska. Trade volume looked no better than light to moderate.

Boxed beef cutout values are lower in the morning report, choice beef 219.63, down 1.99, select 215.52, down .03.

Feeder cattle receipts at the Oklahoma National Stockyards on Monday totaled 6,200 head. Compared to last week, all classes of feeder cattle and calves are trading mostly steady in the early rounds. The quality is average to attractive. The demand remains good for all classes. Feeder steers medium and large 1 weighing 550 to 600 pounds traded at 147.00. Feeder heifers weighing 550 to 600 pounds brought 143.00.

Tri-State Cattle Auction at Sioux Center, Iowa had receipts of 1482 head of steers for the monthly Holstein auction on Friday. There was no comparison on price, but a lower undertone was noted on all the cattle. The demand was moderate to good on a lower offering. Feeder steers medium and large 1-2 109.00 to 185.00 per hundredweight, with lighter calves showing the most advance in prices. Feeder Holsteins Large 2 traded from 87.00 to 108.00.

The Iowa hay market last week saw steady to some instances of higher prices for the top quality hay as higher quality hay continues to be in short supply. Larger sized bales continue to be more available than smaller sized bales. Premium small squares of alfalfa brought 200.00 to 240.00 per ton. Large squares 150.00 to 200.00. Large rounds 85.00 to 110.00 per ton. Alfalfa/grass good small squares 140.00 to 160.00.

Barrows and gilts in the Iowa/Minnesota direct trade are .77 lower at 63.57 weighted average on a carcass basis, the West is down 1.06 at 63.31, and nationally the hog market is .76 lower at 63.61. Missouri direct base carcass meat price is steady to 3.00 lower from 55.00 to 61.00. Midwest hogs on a live basis are steady to 1.00 lower from 41.00 to 48.00.00.

The pork carcass cutout value is 1.40 higher at 79.88 FOB plant.

The pork carcass cutout value scored a decent recovery on Friday, supported by better demand for all primals especially the ham and belly.
