Midday cash livestock markets

USDA Mandatory reports, negotiated cash cattle trade and demand is light to moderate in the Southern Plains. Compared to last week, live sales are steady at 120.00, with a few early sales reported as 1.00 lower in Kansas at 119.00. Trading is light on light to moderate demand in Eastern Nebraska. Compared to last week, dressed sales are steady at 190.00. Trading is mostly inactive on light to moderate demand in other major feeding regions.

Boxed beef cutout values were higher in the morning report. Choice beef was up 1.15 at 190.37, and select was 189.31, up 1.12.

Feeder cattle receipts at Missouri Auctions this week totaled 38,344 head. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold unevenly steady. The supply of feeders was moderate to heavy. Several of the Northern barns that are currently on an every other week schedule had sales this week, and many did call markets higher on lighter weights, but that was compared to two weeks ago and much of that gain in the market in actuality really occurred last week. Feeder steers medium and large 1 averaging 670 pounds brought 140.23 per hundredweight. 671 pound heifers averaged 124.46,

Slaughter cattle receipts at Sheldon, Iowa totaled 661 head on Thursday. The trend compared to last week was 4.00 lower on choice steers, 1.00 to 3.00 lower on Holsteins, and 4.00 to 5.00 lower on choice heifers. Demand was moderate on a higher offering. Slaughter steers choice 2-4 ranged from 114.50 to 115.85. Choice Holstein steers 85.00 to 93.00. Choice 2-4 slaughter heifers from 114.75 to 116.00.

Feeder cattle receipts at the Ogallala, Nebraska Livestock Auction totaled 3400 head. The market was 1.00 to 8.00 higher than last week on steers. Heifers were 1.00 to 3.00 higher. The demand was good on everything offered. Feeder steers medium and large 1 averaging 574 pounds brought 162.15 per hundredweight. 582 pound he3ifers traded at 141.51.

The Pipestone Minnesota hay and straw auction had 81 loads on Wednesday. Good small squares of alfalfa brought 125.00 per ton. Fair large rounds traded at 65.00 to 75.00 per ton. Premium small squares of grass at 125.00. Large rounds of straw at 35.00 per bale.

Barrows and gilts in the Iowa/Minnesota direct trade are 2.16 lower, the West is down 2.15 with both at 72.17 weighted average on a carcass basis. Nationally the hog market is 1.46 lower at 71.83. Missouri direct base carcass meat price is steady from 62.00 to 64.00.

The pork carcass cutout value is .78 higher FOB plant. All cuts were higher except the loin primal.

Actual pork exports last week were up seven-percent from the previous week, six-percent higher than the prior four week average, and a marketing year high. The primary destinations were Mexico, Japan, South Korea, China, and Canada.
