corn field-mid-october nebraskaThe U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded 250,000 dollars to match checkoff investments from the Iowa Corn Promotion Board, Illinois Corn Marketing Board and Nebraska Corn Board for corn phenotyping research.

The research project, known as Genomes to Fields, was initiated by the Iowa Corn Promotion Board. According to Rod Williamson, director of research and development for Iowa Corn, the goal is to convert the corn genome sequence into functional knowledge, “to expand our understanding of interacting effects that corn genetics and crop environments have on corn yields”.

Brownfield discussed the initiative with Williamson in this interview recorded at Iowa Corn headquarters in Johnston, Iowa.
