Safe venison meat starts with processing and ends in the kitchen. As hunters are suiting up with camo and blaze orange for deer season, there are a few steps to take to make sure meat is safe. Jeannine Schweihofer is a meat quality educator with Michigan State University Extension. She says preventing cross contamination and keeping meet clean are the most important steps while handling venison.
