Important ARC-Co deadline approaching

An important deadline is approaching for farm operators enrolled in the ARC-County program with base acres in two or more counties.

Farm management analyst Kent Thiesse says producers negatively impacted by their choice of Administrative County for 2014 and 2015 have until Friday to turn in form CCC-861-A to their local FSA office.

“Producers in that situation can request to have their ARC-County payments for either 2015 or 2015, one or both years, recalculated based on the county where the base acres are located.”

Thiesse says changing the physical location of crop base acres under the ARC-County program could amount to several thousand dollars for some producers.

He tells Brownfield farmers should have a fairly good idea of what 2015 payments will be using the latest USDA county yield data and current prices.

“In many cases, there can be as much as a $20 to $40 dollar an acre difference in the corn ARC-County payment estimates for 2015.”

Thiesse says the University of Illinois offers an online tool producers can use to calculate payments for corn and soybeans.
