Central Nebraska farmer welcomes rain

rain drops on windowThe rain falling in central Nebraska today is going to delay corn planting for a few days.  But that’s okay with Paul Kenney, who farms north of Kearney near Amherst.  Kenney says they’re about four inches behind normal in precipitation this year.

“It’s just pretty tough to catch up if you’re that far behind,” Kenney says. “We just didn’t have much snow this year.  We had a nice little shower at harvest last year, but that was pretty much it.  It was a dry winter and we haven’t had much since.”

Kenney says they were able to plant about 500 acres of corn before the rain moved in.

Some areas of central Nebraska had received an inch or more of rain as of noon Friday.
