Association president confident in seed availability
In its reach and severity, the drought of 2012 was the worst since the 1930s. Farmers are reasonable to have concerns about availability and price of seed, according to Blake Curtis, president of the American Seed Trade Association. “I think we’re adequately positioned to supply seed,” Curtis told Brownfield Ag News, considering improvements in drought hardiness and off season production in foreign countries. Curtis doesn’t expect costs to be significantly higher, although there could be minor increases.
