Unseasonably cold air to build across the eastern-half of the Nation

Precipitation will end later Friday or early Saturday across the Northeast, although a few rain and snow showers will linger across the Great Lakes region.

Subsequently, most of country will experience dry weather into next week.

Exceptions will include the southwestern and south-central U.S., mainly from Arizona to Texas, where 5-day rainfall could reach 1 to 2 inches or more.  Late in the weekend and early next week, showers may also return across the Great Lakes and Northeastern States.

Ongoing dryness in much of the western U.S. will be aggravated by above-normal temperatures.

Farther east, however, another surge of cool air early next week will result in sub-freezing temperatures at least as far south as the central Plains and the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys.
