More rain for much of the Corn Belt

On the Plains, cool, dry, breezy weather prevails across northern portions of the region, where small grain harvesting continues. Farther south, a band of rain across the southern High Plains and portions of the central Plains is providing generally beneficial moisture for rangeland, pastures, and immature summer crops.

Across the Corn Belt, showers and thunderstorms in the vicinity of a cold front stretch from Michigan to Missouri. In advance of the front, warm weather favors summer crop maturation. Meanwhile, cool, dry, breezy weather is overspreading the Dakotas.

In the South, warm, humid, mostly dry weather prevails. The region remains a mix of wet and dry areas, with the most significant drought occurring in a broad area centered on the southern Appalachians. In contrast, recovery efforts continue in flood-ravaged sections of southern Louisiana.

In the West, several new wildfires have ignited in recent days across the interior Northwest. Meanwhile, hot weather is returning to portions of the Pacific Coast States and starting to spread inland. Currently, monsoon-related showers are mostly confined to the central and southern Rockies.
