Near-ideal weather across most of the Corn Belt

Across the Corn Belt, widely scattered showers dot the upper Midwest and the southern tier of the region. Warmth throughout the Midwest is promoting corn and soybean maturation.

On the Plains, scattered showers are mostly confined to the southeastern half of the region. Meanwhile, warm, mostly dry conditions across the northern Plains favor summer crop maturation and small grain harvesting.

In the South, tropical depressions lie east of the Carolinas and southwest of Florida. The tropical cyclones, although weak, are contributing to locally heavy showers in the southern Atlantic States. Unsettled weather also prevails along and near the Gulf Coast, while hot, humid conditions dominate the entire region.

In the West, late-season heat prevails, except in the central and southern Rockies and along the immediate Pacific Coast. Several large wildfires, in various stages of containment, continue to burn in parts of California and the Northwest. Isolated showers are limited to the central and southern Rockies.
