Hot weather to moderate on the Plains; improving rainfall prospects eastern Corn Belt

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for above-normal temperatures nearly nationwide.  The greatest likelihood of extreme heat will stretch from the central and southern Plains to the Mississippi Delta.  

Meanwhile, near- or below-normal rainfall across much of the country should contrast with wetter-than-normal weather in parts of the Southwest and from the eastern Corn Belt into the middle and northern Atlantic States.
