A pattern shift ahead for parts of the Heartland later next week

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for above-normal temperatures along and east of a line from the southern Rockies to Lake Superior, while cooler-than-normal conditions will cover an area stretching from the Pacific Coast to the northwestern half of the Plains.

Meanwhile, above-normal precipitation in the middle and southern Atlantic States, as well as areas along and northwest of a line from California to Wisconsin, should contrast with drier-than-normal weather in the Ohio Valley, lower half of the Mississippi Valley, and southern sections of the Rockies and Plains.
