Why use treated seed

The efficacy of seed treatments are giving farmers another great tool to use on their farms.  Andy LaVigne, president of the American Seed Trade Association says as the technology continues to advance – it’s giving the seed the best opportunity to maximize its yield potential.

LaVigne tells Brownfield agencies like US EPA and the state departments of agriculture like how seed treatment technology has been adopted.  “It’s a very targeted application for farmers,” he says.  “The agencies like this process and are working closely with us on it.  Our major focus is to ensure we don’t have additional regulations put on the farmer.  We don’t want to see the cost increase or see farmers go back to using some of the older technologies that are out there.

He says ASTA is also working with grower associations to ensure farmers know the proper way to handle treated seed.
