On-Farm Network uses “big data” for farmers’ benefit

Although the term “big data” may have different meanings, recent technological developments provide benefits and real concerns.  At the On-Farm Network Conference in Ames, the operations manager for analytics with the On-Farm Network, Peter Kyveryga, discussed recent trends related to the use of a large volume of information/data and big data analytics in agriculture—and how the On-Farm Network handles the data it collects from farmers to help reduce risk, improve use of different inputs and increase profitability in crop production.
