Iowa Farm Bureau President Hill favors another look at COOL

Iowa Farm Bureau president Craig Hill

American Farm Bureau delegates set policy Tuesday, and among the issues, is American Farm Bureau’s support of country of origin labeling. Brownfield’s Tom Steever has more from San Antonio.

Iowa Farm Bureau President Craig Hill tells Brownfield that American Farm Bureau Federation delegates will revisit mandatory country of origin labeling, which was never implemented, although has been part of U.S. federal farm policy for years.

“We have supported the current legislation, but it is not WTO compliant, and it’s causing harm to our trading partners, Canada, specifically,” Hill told Brownfield Ag News at the AFBF Annual Convention, “so let’s make ourselves good trading partners and do it the right way.”

Hill is among those from Iowa who are voting delegates deciding American Farm Bureau policy beginning Tuesday in San Antonio.
