1st Michigan farmer to serve NAWG board

A Michigan farmer has been elected to the National Association of Wheat Growers board for the first time.

Dave Milligan farms near Cass City in Michigan’s Thumb, growing wheat, corn, soybeans and dry beans. He tells Brownfield his involvement in creating the Michigan Wheat Program and his son coming back to the farm made it a perfect time to serve the industry.  “There’s fewer acres, that’s because of reduced profitability, there’s more wheat in the world than we need, so exports are certainly a priority and trying to get more yield with less costs.  We what to do a lot of research on head scab and those issues.”

Milligan was elected Secretary of the National Association of Wheat Growers (NAWG) at the Commodity Classic in Texas last week and will continue his role as the chairman of the Michigan Wheat Program.
