Wisconsin is still too wet for fieldwork

Wet fields

Rain and snow continued to cause delays for Wisconsin farmers last week.  The USDA’s National Ag Statistics Service says only two and a half days had good weather for fieldwork, but most fields were too muddy for equipment.

Topsoil moisture is rated 52% adequate and 48% surplus.

Spring tillage is 21% complete, which is about 11 days behind schedule.  Only 5% of the corn is planted, but 27% of the state’s potatoes are in the ground.  Barely one-third of the oats are planted, and some of them are emerging.
