Wisconsin Farm Bureau awards named

Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation announced several award recipients during their 100th annual conference during the weekend.

Meikah Dado was selected as the winner of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau’s Collegiate Discussion Meet contest.  The UW-Madison senior and past FFA state officer from Amery is majoring in dairy science and life sciences communications. She will receive a $1,500 scholarship from GROWMARK, Inc., and will represent Wisconsin in the national Collegiate Discussion Meet next March in Louisville, Kentucky.

Rachel Leege of Green County was selected winner of the Young Farmer and Agriculturist Discussion Meet contest.  The UW Platteville graduate is a science communications manager at the Alliance of Crop, Soil and Environmental Science Societies.

Ben Huber received the Young Farmer and Agriculturist Excellence in Agriculture Award.  Huber is the agronomy department manager for Insight FS.  He has been a Farm Bureau member since 2009 and is the Green County Farm Bureau president.

Viroqua farmers Travis and Krista Klinkner were selected as the winners of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau’s Young Farmer and Agriculturist Achievement award. The Klinkners and four young children operate an organic 60-cow dairy and crop farm.

Leege, Huber, and the Klinkners will all represent Wisconsin at the American Farm Bureau Federation conference in Texas.

Robert and Karen Schwandt from Dodge County were presented the ‘Distinguished Service to Farm Bureau’ award, which is the highest honor given to members. The Schwandt’s have both been actively involved in Farm Bureau for the past 53 years.

The ‘Distinguished Service to Wisconsin Agriculture’ award was presented to Craig Culver, the founder of Culver’s restaurants for his outstanding, long-term contributions to Wisconsin’s agricultural industry.
