Wisconsin deer farm depopulated

Wisconsin officials are continuing to battle Chronic Wasting Disease in deer.

The Department of Ag, Trade, and Consumer Protection says a Portage County deer farm was depopulated May 1st because of CWD.  Of the thirty deer taken, six animals tested positive for the disease.

Even with all the animals gone, the property must be cleaned and remain fenced and free of deer.  USDA funding will partially compensate the herd owner for the loss.

State officials also released the quarantine for a Bayfield County hunting ranch.  Restrictions were lifted as there are no remaining deer and no evidence of CWD.  The ranch was depopulated in 2018, and CWD was not detected in any of those deer.
