Wisconsin ag export funding bill reaches Governor’s desk

Legislation that would invest five million dollars into helping Wisconsin export agricultural goods is on Governor Tony Evers’ desk.  Assembly Bill 314 was written by Senator Joan Ballweg and Representative Tony Kurtz and passed the State Assembly unanimously a week ago, and the State Senate unanimously Monday.

Wisconsin’s Department of Ag, Trade, and Consumer Protection has had an export program for years, but it has never had funding from the state legislature.  If signed into law, half of the five million would promote meat and non-dairy ag exports and half would promote dairy products.

The goal is to increase Wisconsin ag exports by 25% within five years. The program would also have to report to the Joint Committee on Finance annually.
