White House moves to send TPP to Congress

Late last week the White House moved forward on plans to put the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) before Congress by posting a “draft statement of administrative action.”

The statement is a procedural requirement which details what will be in the legislation, necessary changes to U.S. law to comply with the agreement and administrative actions needed for compliance. The implementing bill can’t be submitted to Congress until at least 30 days after the release of the draft statement.

Republican congressional leaders have ruled out a vote on the TPP during a lame duck session of Congress.
