Wheeler: Emissions reporting exemption to help farmers & responders

The EPA has taken action to prevent farmers from having to make needless emissions reports which the EPA director says will also help first responders, “The head of one of emergency response associations was very happy and excited about this because, in his words, they were getting a lot of data, a lot of reports from farmers that they didn’t need and it was clogging up their system.” Andrew Wheeler, EPA Acting Administrator, tells Brownfield Ag News the proposed new rule relates to the FARM Act that Congress passed earlier this year. It removes reporting about animal waste under the “Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA).” Wheeler tells Brownfield in no way will the exemption compromise air quality protections. Wheeler signed the proposed rule last week in Kansas and also held discussions with ag officials in Missouri.

EPA Acting Administrator Wheeler joined by MO Farm Bureau President Blake Hurst, Missouri DNR Director Carol Comer, Missouri Ag Director Chris Chinn, and Regional Admin Jim Gulliford at Vern and Paul Hart’s farm in St. Joseph, Missouri.
