Wheat groups support USTR action against China
Two U.S. wheat organizations are applauding the filing of unfair trading complaints against China by the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR).
The National Association of Wheat Growers and U.S. Wheat Associates say China’s government policies distort the wheat market and harm wheat growers throughout the rest of the world.
Alan Tracy, president of U.S. Wheat Associates, tells Brownfield, “As the biggest wheat producer in the world and the biggest consumer in the world, their policies affect what happens to the entire trade all the way around the world, and trade is extremely important to us.” He says, “Half of U.S. wheat is exported.”
The USTR complaint to the World Trade Organization (WTO) alleges that China is not fairly administering its annual tariff rate quotas (TRQ) for corn, rice and wheat.
