‘What are we going to do with all this corn?’

The big drop in ethanol production, combined with favorable planting conditions in many parts of the Midwest, has been weighing heavily on the corn market.

Farmer Duane Aistrope of Randolph, Iowa says it has a lot of farmers asking the question, “what are we going to do with all this corn?”

“If we have ideal conditions here in southwest Iowa all year long and our bins are roughly half to two-thirds full of corn from last year that hasn’t been marketed—you know, what are we going to do with this corn this next year?”

The export market could offer some hope for corn demand.  Marketing firm AgriVisor says U.S. corn prices are now some of the most affordable in the global market.
