Wet, cold conditions limit fieldwork in northern Wisconsin

Wet and cold conditions allowed for little fieldwork across northern Wisconsin last week.

The latest USDA crop report says there were fewer than two days suitable because of freezing temperatures and snow showers.

In southern Wisconsin, tillage and manure applications were done on well-drained soils.

Four percent of the oat crop has been planted.  That’s nearly two weeks behind last year and 10 days behind the five-year average.

Potato planting is also behind at just 1 percent complete.

The condition of winter wheat did improve three percentage points on the week to 61 percent good to excellent.

Pasture conditions slightly improved to 38 percent good to excellent.
