Wet, cold beginning to 2024 for Missouri

January was colder and wetter than normal for much of Missouri.

The USDA says statewide temperatures averaged 3 degrees below normal, while precipitation was more than 2 inches higher than average, pulling soil moisture levels higher and bringing some, but not all, of Missouri out of drought.

65% of the winter wheat crop is rated good to excellent, 8% less than a month ago and 3% below a year ago.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition reports resume in April.
