Weed killing technology at MU field day

Supplemental weed killing technology was a highlight at the University of Missouri Pest Management Field day today.

A Weed Zapper that electrocutes weeds, weed seed termination on combines and a close look at cover crops for weed control were on display at the MU Bradford Research Farm, east of Columbia.

MU state Extension weed scientist Dr. Kevin Bradley tells Brownfield Ag News, “All of that is just kind of part of a herbicide program that you’re going to do anyway but I think everybody is kind of starting to see that we’re going to have to do more than just straight herbicides.”

MU Weed Science is involved in several multi-state herbicide research projects funded by the United Soybean Board and the Missouri Soybean Board. Bradley says some of that research is screening for resistance, to be proactive.
