Weather woes for Tennessee farmers

Heavy rains and widespread flooding have limited fieldwork in Tennessee.  There are very few who have been able to make adequate preparation for planting.  Corn planting is expected to start in full-force as weather allows.

Fall-planted wheat is ranted 76 percent good to excellent and 76 percent of the crop is jointing with 1 percent headed.  Pastures are rated 54 percent good to excellent.  Twenty percent of the apple crop is in full bloom.

Ninety-nine percent of both topsoil and subsoil are called adequate to surplus.
