Weather allows for start to field work in Iowa

Field work is already underway in Iowa.

The USDA says Iowa farmers took advantage of the weather to apply fertilizer and manure, with some starting tillage and even oat planting.

The eastern half of the state did generally see better precipitation than western areas, but there are concerns about soil moisture ahead of corn and soybean planting.

Grain movement was up from January, while livestock conditions are good with reports of calving.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition reports resume in April.
