Wayne County, Indiana Ag Youth awarded
Brownfield, Ag News for America in partnership with WKBV presented the 2010 Indiana Ag Youth Belt Buckle Awards at the 2010 Wayne County Fair on June 23. The awards were presented to Randy DuVall, Marissa Hill, and Jesse Martin.
Jesse Martin from Fountain City, Indiana has been in 4-H for ten years and told Brownfield he has come to love his animals almost as much as he loves his family. For the past decade he has risen early in the morning and gone to bed late at night, preparing his animals for fairs. While there were days he didn’t feel up to the task of the long days, Martin thanks his mom and dad for pushing him. He hopes that other 4-H members will understand that there will be times when they will want to quit, but the longer they are involved in the program the more they will love it.
Marissa Hill, also from Fountain City, Indiana is celebrating her 10th year in 4-H this year and always looks forward to the 4-H events. Hill describes these events as a combination of “family reunions” and a place to meet new friends. She enjoys working with the younger members of 4-H because she hopes they will realize how fun and rewarding the program is, just like her parents and grandparents showed her growing up. She plans to attend Ball State this fall and major in music education with a minor in special education and possibly math or English.
After ten years in the 4-H program, Randy DuVall from Fountain City, Indiana says that 4-H has taught him leadership, success, and given him a venue to pass along those values to younger 4-H members, including his very own brother.
DuVall, Hill, and Martin were recognized for their accomplishments in the areas of outstanding showmanship, champion animal and outstanding 4-H’er.
